Every Thursday and Sunday, vendedores from surrounding villages pack up their goods, load them on a beat-up pick-up truck and make their way to Chichicastenango. As one of the largest and most famous markets in Guatemala, it attracts its fair share of gringo day-trippers and bargain hunters.
The market distils a lot of what is great about Guatemala: colour, textiles, bustling crowds and families enjoying the day together in traditional costume.
