$11 per night, 10 bed mixed dorm with shared bathroom, 10 - 13th December 2014
Vibe
In keeping with what you would expect from HI accommodations, Casa Yoses is a well-run, clean (if somewhat sterile) place to spend a few days. Although pleasantly social at eating times, this isn't a party hostel.
Location
Located in the popular and busy university district, the frequent buses from the centre mean it is easy to reach at any time of day. Due to the young residents in the area, you're in the right place to head out and find a party.
Best bit
Whilst we stayed there, the hostel had just become the proud new owners of the most adorable kitten!
Worst bit
The hostel has a very frustrating and questionable policy of not following the official exchange rate and, as all their prices are in US dollars, if you chose to pay in local currency (as we imagine, a lot of people would do), you will end up paying more. To actively instigate a situation where you knowingly choose to rip off your customers is simply not acceptable.
The bar/restaurant next door is also very loud for anyone in a dorm.
Value for money
Decent free pancake breakfast, good dorms and facilities in a capital city. Although this is more than we would normally like to pay, considering this is Costa Rica, these prices are not too bad.
Recommended for
Hostelling International places are designed to appeal to everybody - Casa Yoses does just that.
Top tip
As tempting as it is, avoid the bar/restaurant next door - it is hugely over-priced.
Amenities
Kitchen, free breakfast, tourist information, large lockers, computers, 24 hour reception, wi-fi, garden with outside seating area, English spoken, pets.
