Colour Around Every Corner in Guatapé

A few hours outside of Medellin, you will find the most colourful town in Colombia. And possibly in all of Latin America.

Unique to this town, Guatapé's buildings are covered from head to toe in bright paint and zócalos. Some of the designs depict the heritage or trade of the family residing within, whilst others are simply artistic decoration. No two houses are the same.

After much investigation, we have heard several suspicious reasons about why the town adopted this style, but none really seem plausible to us - can chickens really do that much damage?

We'd love to hear your ideas in the comments.

And this is one of the men responsible for keeping the zócalos fresh and the tradition alive. He is also the current holder of Mr. Moustache 2015 (or at least we think he should be).
